1. Weldability
Different applications demand varying welding capabilities from our products. While some tableware may dismiss the need for welding, industries like thermos cups, steel pipes, and water dispensers rely on exceptional weldability. Second-class tableware and products such as water heaters also require superior welding properties, ensuring seamless integration and robust performance.
2. Corrosion Resistance
Stainless steel products necessitate outstanding corrosion resistance, crucial for Class I and II tableware, kitchen utensils, and appliances like water heaters and dispensers. International standards often subject products to rigorous corrosion tests, such as heating in NaCl solutions. Post-test, the weight loss is evaluated to gauge corrosion levels. Note: During polishing, iron content from abrasive materials might induce rust spots, skewing test results.
3. Polishing Performance
Polishing is integral to stainless steel production, with exceptions like certain water heater interiors. Thus, raw materials must exhibit excellent polishing capabilities, influenced by several factors:
(1) Surface imperfections such as scratches, pitting, and pickling.
(2) Material quality concerns. Low hardness complicates polishing, reducing BQ properties. Conversely, excessively low hardness during deep drawing can cause surface flaws like orange peel, affecting BQ. High hardness typically enhances BQ characteristics.
(3) For deep-drawn products, deformation-prone areas might develop small black spots and RIDGING, adversely affecting BQ performance.
4. Heat Resistance
Heat resistance ensures stainless steel retains its superior physical and mechanical attributes, even at elevated temperatures, making it ideal for demanding applications.
The Role of Carbon: Carbon enhances the austenitic structure in stainless steels, exceeding nickel's effects by 30-fold. As an interstitial element, carbon significantly fortifies austenitic stainless steel through solid solution strengthening and boosts its resistance to stress corrosion in highly concentrated chlorides, such as boiling 42% MgCl2 solutions.
