1. Weldability
In the world of diverse product applications, the demand for welding performance varies significantly. While certain tableware categories might not necessitate this trait, and some cookware enterprises prefer it without, a vast array of products relies heavily on superior welding capabilities. This includes the likes of second-class tableware, thermos cups, steel pipes, water heaters, and water dispensers, all of which demand raw materials that excel in weldability.
2. Corrosion resistance
A hallmark of exceptional stainless steel products is their ability to resist corrosion, a quality highly prized in Class I and II tableware, kitchen utensils, water heaters, and water dispensers. Some discerning international clients even conduct rigorous corrosion resistance tests. They use NACL aqueous solutions, heating them to boiling points, and after a defined duration, the solution is removed. The product is then washed, dried, and weighed to assess weight loss, thereby determining corrosion levels. It's noteworthy that during polishing, iron content from abrasive materials can induce surface rust spots during these tests.
3. Polishing performance
In the contemporary market, the majority of stainless steel products undergo polishing during manufacturing, with few exceptions such as water heater and water dispenser liners. Therefore, raw materials must exhibit exceptional polishing characteristics. Several key factors contribute to a material's polishing performance:
(1) Surface defects of raw materials. Variables like scratches, pitting, and pickling play a crucial role.
(2) The intrinsic quality of raw materials. Low hardness can hinder the polishing process, as poor BQ properties arise. Conversely, excessive softness can lead to surface imperfections like the orange peel effect during deep drawing, detracting from the BQ quality. Materials with heightened hardness typically showcase superior BQ properties.
(3) For products undergoing deep drawing, surface imperfections such as small black spots and ridging can emerge in areas with intense deformation, adversely impacting BQ performance.
4. Heat resistance
Heat resistance signifies the remarkable ability of stainless steel to sustain its outstanding physical and mechanical attributes even at elevated temperatures.
The Role of Carbon: Carbon plays a pivotal role in austenitic stainless steels by strongly forming and stabilizing austenite, expanding its region. Its influence is approximately 30 times that of nickel. As an interstitial element, carbon significantly bolsters the strength of austenitic stainless steel via solid solution strengthening. Moreover, it enhances the stress corrosion resistance of this steel variant in highly concentrated chlorides, such as a 42% MgCl2 boiling solution.
