Main Features
1. Weldability
The welding performance of a product can significantly vary based on its intended use. While certain product categories, like some tableware and cookware items, may not prioritize welding capabilities, the majority of applications demand superior welding performance from their materials. This is particularly true for second-class tableware, thermos cups, steel pipes, water heaters, and water dispensers, where robust and dependable welding is crucial.
2. Corrosion resistance
Stainless steel's exceptional corrosion resistance is a vital feature for many products, including Class I and II tableware, kitchen utensils, water heaters, and water dispensers. Many international clients even conduct rigorous corrosion resistance tests, such as exposing the stainless steel to a boiling NACL aqueous solution. After exposure, the solution is removed, and the material is washed, dried, and weighed to assess weight loss, determining the corrosion level. Note: Polishing introduces Fe content from abrasive cloths or sandpaper, which may cause rust spots during testing.
3. Polishing performance
In today's market, the aesthetic appeal of stainless steel products is often enhanced through polishing, though exceptions like water heater liners exist. Consequently, the raw materials must exhibit excellent polishing capabilities. Factors influencing this include the following:
(1) Surface Defects: Issues such as scratches, pitting, and pickling can significantly impact the polishing quality.
(2) Raw Material Hardness: Optimal hardness is crucial; too low, and the material resists polishing and may show orange peel effects during deep drawing, affecting BQ properties. High hardness generally correlates with improved BQ properties.
(3) Deep-Drawing Effects: In areas of significant deformation, small black spots and ridging can occur, impairing the BQ performance.
4. Heat resistance
The capacity of stainless steel to retain its outstanding physical and mechanical characteristics under elevated temperatures is what defines its heat resistance.
The Role of Carbon: Carbon plays a pivotal role in defining the properties of austenitic stainless steels. It forms and stabilizes austenite effectively, expanding the austenite region much more efficiently than nickel. As a potent interstitial element, carbon greatly enhances the material's strength through solid solution strengthening. Furthermore, carbon improves stress corrosion resistance, particularly in environments with highly concentrated chloride solutions, like a 42% MgCl2 boiling solution.
