(1) Based on usage, carbon steel is classified into three main types: carbon structural steel, carbon tool steel, and free-cutting structural steel. Carbon structural steel is further categorized into engineering construction steel and machine manufacturing structural steel.
(2) According to the smelting technique, carbon steel is divided into open hearth steel and converter steel.
(3) Based on the deoxidation process, it encompasses boiling steel (F), killed steel (Z), semi-killed steel (b), and special killed steel (TZ).
(4) Based on carbon content, carbon steel classifies into low carbon steel (WC ≤ 0.25%), medium carbon steel (WC 0.25%-0.6%), and high carbon steel (WC > 0.6%).
(5) Concerning steel quality, carbon steel is categorized into ordinary carbon steel (with higher phosphorus and sulfur content), high-quality carbon steel (characterized by reduced phosphorus and sulfur content), advanced high-quality steel, and extra high-quality steel.
Common Steel Grades and Utilizations:
08F: Featuring a low carbon mass fraction, it exhibits excellent plasticity and low strength, ideal for manufacturing stamping parts such as automobile and instrument housings.
20. Known for good plasticity and weldability, it is employed in parts with low strength demands and carburized components, including hoods, welding containers, small shafts, nuts, washers, and carburized gears.
45, 40Mn: After quenching and tempering, these grades present impressive mechanical properties, suitable for heavily stressed mechanical components such as gears, connecting rods, and machine tool spindles.
