Main Features
1. Weldability
Different product applications demand varied welding performance levels. For instance, some tableware categories and certain cookware brands might not prioritize welding properties. However, for the majority of products, superior welding capability is essential. This includes second-class tableware, thermos cups, steel pipes, water heaters, and water dispensers, all relying on top-notch raw material welding performance for optimal functionality.
2. Corrosion resistance
The demand for impressive corrosion resistance is prevalent among stainless steel products, including Class I and II tableware, kitchen utensils, water heaters, and water dispensers. For instance, international merchants often conduct corrosion resistance tests: by heating a NACL aqueous solution to boiling, then removing, washing, drying, and weighing the product to assess corrosion through weight loss. (Note: Polished products might exhibit rust spots due to Fe content in abrasive materials during these tests.)
3. Polishing performance
In the modern production landscape, stainless steel products usually undergo polishing, with only a few exceptions like water heater and water dispenser liners. This requirement necessitates exceptional polishing performance in raw materials. Key factors influencing this performance include:
(1) Surface defects in raw materials, such as scratches, pitting, and pickling, can negatively affect the polishing outcome.
(2) Raw material issues: Low hardness can impede effective polishing, causing poor BQ properties. Conversely, high hardness can lead to orange peel effects during deep drawing, affecting BQ properties. Generally, higher hardness correlates with better BQ outcomes.
(3) In deep-drawn products, notable defects like small black spots and RIDGING may arise in heavily deformed areas, reducing BQ performance.
4. Heat resistance
Heat resistance ensures that stainless steel retains its remarkable physical and mechanical attributes even under elevated temperatures.
Influence of carbon: Carbon plays a pivotal role in forming and stabilizing austenite, significantly expanding its range in austenitic stainless steels. With an austenite-forming potential around 30 times that of nickel, carbon can substantially enhance the strength of austenitic stainless steel via solid solution strengthening. Furthermore, carbon enhances the stress corrosion resistance in highly concentrated chloride environments, such as a 42% MgCl2 boiling solution.
