1. Weldability
In the diverse world of product applications, welding performance plays a crucial role. For some categories, like a certain class of tableware and specific pot manufacturers, welding isn't a prerequisite. However, for a vast array of products such as second-class tableware, thermos cups, steel pipes, water heaters, and water dispensers, superior weldability of raw materials is indispensable.
2. Corrosion Resistance
The hallmark of premium stainless steel products is their exceptional resistance to corrosion. Notably, items such as Class I and II tableware, kitchen utensils, water heaters, and water dispensers demand this quality. International clients often conduct meticulous corrosion resistance tests. A common method involves heating NACL aqueous solutions to boiling, then removing, washing, drying, and weighing the specimens to assess weight loss and determine corrosion levels. (Note: During polishing, iron content from abrasive materials may lead to rust spots on surfaces tested.)
3. Polishing Performance
In modern manufacturing, polishing is a staple in the production of stainless steel goods, with only exceptions like internal components of water heaters and dispensers. This necessitates raw materials with outstanding polishability. Key factors influencing this include:
(1) Surface quality of raw materials. Issues such as scratches, pitting, and pickling can hinder polishability.
(2) Material characteristics. Low hardness can impair polishing ease (poor BQ properties), and can also lead to 'orange peel' effects during deep drawing, thereby affecting BQ quality. Conversely, materials with higher hardness exhibit better BQ characteristics.
(3) For products undergoing deep drawing, blemishes like small black spots and RIDGING can manifest in highly deformed areas, impacting BQ performance.
4. Heat Resistance
Heat resistance is synonymous with the ability of stainless steel to retain its superior physical and mechanical attributes even at elevated temperatures.
The Role of Carbon: Carbon is instrumental in forming and stabilizing austenite while broadening the austenite region in austenitic stainless steels. Its potential in forming austenite is approximately 30 times that of nickel. Being an interstitial element, carbon significantly bolsters the strength of austenitic stainless steel via solid solution strengthening. Moreover, carbon enhances stress corrosion resistance in environments with high chloride concentrations, such as 42% MgCl2 boiling solutions.
