Classification
(1) Based on their purpose, carbon steels are categorized into three distinct types: carbon structural steel, carbon tool steel, and free-cutting structural steel. Further, carbon structural steel is subdivided into engineering construction steel and machinery manufacturing structural steel.
(2) In accordance with the smelting method, carbon steel can be classified into open hearth steel and converter steel.
(3) Considering the deoxidation method, carbon steel is categorized into boiling steel (F), killed steel (Z), semi-killed steel (b), and special killed steel (TZ).
(4) According to carbon content, carbon steel is divided into low carbon steel (WC ≤ 0.25%), medium carbon steel (WC 0.25%-0.6%), and high carbon steel (WC > 0.6%).
(5) Based on the quality of the steel, it is classified into ordinary carbon steel (with higher phosphorus and sulfur content), high-quality carbon steel (with lower phosphorus and sulfur content), advanced high-quality steel, and extra high-quality steel.
Common Steel Grades and Their Applications:
08F: Featuring a low carbon mass fraction, this grade excels in plasticity while maintaining low strength, ideal for stamping parts like automobile and instrument housings.

T9, T10, T11: Specifically designed for manufacturing tools requiring high hardness and high wear resistance, yet low impact tolerance, like taps, small drills, dies, and hand saw blades.
T12, T13: Ideal for tools that must resist impact, these grades are perfect for files, scrapers, razors, and measuring tools.
Hot Rolling contrasts with cold rolling. Cold rolling occurs below the metal's recrystallization temperature, whereas hot rolling takes place above this temperature threshold.
