1. Weldability
Different product uses dictate varying demands for welding performance. For example, certain tableware types may not require welding capabilities, an aspect favored by some cookware manufacturers. This includes items like second-class tableware, thermos flasks, steel conduits, water heaters, and dispensers, all relying on superior welding performance to ensure durability and reliability.
2. Corrosion resistance
The majority of stainless steel goods demand excellent corrosion resistance, a critical feature for Class I and II tableware, culinary tools, water heaters, and dispensers. To ensure this, some international buyers conduct rigorous corrosion tests. These tests involve heating the products in a NACL solution, followed by a drying and weighing process to measure weight loss and assess corrosion levels. However, be cautious: during polishing, the Fe content from abrasives may cause surface rust spots during testing.
3. Polishing performance
In our modern world, the majority of stainless steel items undergo a polishing process during manufacturing. Only a select few, such as the interiors of water heaters and dispensers, remain unpolished. This trend necessitates outstanding polishability of raw materials. Key factors influencing polishing include:
(1)Surface defects of raw materials. These include scratches, pitting, and issues arising from pickling.
(2)Material issues. Low hardness can impede the polishing process, affecting BQ properties, and may also lead to surface 'orange peel' in deep drawing. Conversely, materials with higher hardness exhibit improved BQ properties.
(3)In products subjected to deep drawing, defects like small black spots and RIDGING may appear on highly deformed areas, adversely impacting BQ performance.
4. Heat resistance
Heat resistance signifies the ability of stainless steel to retain its superior physical and mechanical characteristics at elevated temperatures.
The Role of Carbon: Carbon significantly influences the formation and stabilization of austenite, expanding the austenitic region in stainless steels. Its efficacy in forming austenite is approximately 30 times that of nickel. As an interstitial element, carbon notably enhances the strength of austenitic stainless steel via solid solution strengthening. Furthermore, carbon can bolster the stress corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steel in high-concentration chloride environments, such as a 42% MgCl2 boiling solution.
