1. Weldability
The welding performance requirements vary with different product applications. For instance, a certain type of tableware might not necessitate any welding capability, as seen in some cookware companies. Yet, for a vast majority of products, superior welding performance of raw materials is paramount. This includes products such as advanced tableware, thermos flasks, steel pipes, water heaters, and water dispensers, where seamless welding is crucial for optimal functionality.
2. Corrosion Resistance
The demand for exceptional corrosion resistance is a common trait among stainless steel products, particularly in items like Class I and II tableware, kitchen utensils, water heaters, and water dispensers. In response to this, international clients often conduct rigorous corrosion resistance evaluations. By immersing products in a boiling NACL aqueous solution, they simulate prolonged exposure, then remove, cleanse, and dry the items to measure weight loss, determining the degree of corrosion. It's important to note that when polished, Fe content in abrasive materials can lead to surface rust spots during these tests.
3. Polishing Performance
In modern manufacturing, polishing is integral to the production of stainless steel goods, with only select items like water heater and water dispenser linings not requiring it. Therefore, raw materials must exhibit excellent polishing capabilities, influenced by several key factors:
(1) Surface Defects: Imperfections such as scratches, pitting, and pickling significantly impact the material's polishability.
(2) Raw Material Hardness: Low hardness hinders polishability due to poor BQ properties, and can lead to 'orange peel' effects during deep drawing. Conversely, higher hardness enhances BQ properties, ensuring a smooth, polished finish.
(3) Deep Drawing Effects: In highly deformed areas of deep-drawn products, small black spots and ridging can appear, adversely affecting BQ performance.
4. Heat Resistance
Stainless steel's heat resistance is its ability to retain outstanding physical and mechanical properties even under high-temperature conditions.
Carbon's Influence: Carbon plays a vital role in forming and stabilizing austenite, expanding its region within austenitic stainless steels. Its potency, about 30 times that of nickel, significantly elevates the strength of these steels through solid solution strengthening. Moreover, carbon enhances the stress corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steel, especially in highly concentrated chloride environments like a 42% MgCl2 boiling solution.
