Carbon steel pipes are expertly categorized into two distinct types based on their manufacturing process: hot-rolled and cold-rolled (drawn) steel pipes, each offering unique advantages tailored to specific needs.
Hot-rolled carbon steel pipes are further classified into various specialized types, including general steel pipes, low and medium pressure boiler steel pipes, high pressure boiler steel pipes, alloy steel pipes, stainless steel pipes, petroleum cracking pipes, geological steel pipes, and many other essential steel pipe variations.
Cold-rolled (pulled) carbon steel pipes extend beyond the standard offerings, encompassing an array of specialized pipes like carbon thin-walled steel pipes, alloy thin-walled steel pipes, non-rust thin-walled steel pipes, and uniquely shaped steel pipes. Typically, hot-rolled seamless pipes exhibit an outer diameter greater than 32mm with a wall thickness ranging from 2.5 to 75mm, while cold-rolled seamless pipes can achieve an outer diameter as minimal as 6mm with wall thickness reaching as thin as 0.25mm. The ultra-precise thin-walled pipes can have an outer diameter as small as 5mm with wall thickness below 0.25mm, showcasing the superior dimensional accuracy of cold rolling compared to hot rolling.
General carbon steel pipes are crafted from a diverse range of high-quality carbon steels such as 10, 20, 30, 35, 45, and various low-alloy structural steels like 16Mn and 5MnV, alongside alloy steels including 40Cr, 30CrMnSi, 45Mn2, and 40MnB. Seamless pipes made from low carbon steels like 10 and 20 are predominantly utilized for fluid transportation pipelines, while medium carbon steel seamless pipes such as 45 and 40Cr are essential in manufacturing robust mechanical parts, serving as key components in automobiles and tractors. These pipes are engineered to meet stringent strength and flattening test requirements. Hot-rolled steel pipes are supplied in a hot-rolled or heat-treated state, whereas cold-rolled steel pipes are delivered exclusively in a heat-treated condition.
