Cold galvanized pipes, characterized by their electro-galvanized coatings, offer minimal zinc coverage of just 10-50g/m2, resulting in significantly lower corrosion resistance compared to hot-dip galvanized pipes. Typically shunned by quality manufacturers, these pipes are generally the domain of small enterprises with outdated technology. The Ministry of Construction has moved to phase out these cold galvanized pipes, particularly for water and gas applications, due to their fragile electroplating layers which separate from the steel substrate, compromising integrity and resistance to corrosion.
Rust removal method
(1). Begin by cleansing the steel surface with a solvent, effectively eliminating any organic matter present.
(2). Utilize tools such as wire brushes to meticulously remove rust, scale, welding slag, and any loose or inclined particles.
(3). Opt for the pickling method for efficient rust removal, ensuring a pristine and ready-to-coat surface.
The galvanizing process is distinguished into hot-dip and cold-dip methods. Hot-dip galvanizing offers superior rust resistance, while cold-dip galvanizing is more susceptible to corrosion.
